Flamboro May10th.."Oh What a Night !"
« on: May 11, 2008, 02:01:02 AM »
The night started out mild...but it was hot hot by nights end with protests and unknown finishes.....
What we do kno...
36 mini stocks took the track...heats won by #88 Mustang Ken Spira, #31 Mustang Dave Bailey, #26 Volvo Willis Mahood....consi #5 Mustang Ken Stenhouse.
30 cars took the green in the feature, with plenty of 3 wide passing. Bailey and the #37 VW Rob Hoskins made contact on lap 7 sending Bailey too the pits for repairs during the caution. On the restart he was passing high and low to make his way back too the front, where the #15 Honda of Matt Dean and the #66 Beemer of Tony Darmon were battling for second as the Volvo of Mahood lead the way. Problems for Mahood and Darmon would give way for Dean to take the lead and the checkers, with the #36  Dodge of Jamie Watson second, Bailey finishing 3rd, #02 Toyota of Make Taylor 4th and the #01 Grandam of Mark DaSilva 5th.

25 Thundercars...heat winners #17 Nick Roth, #66 Jake Ott, #72 Randy Rusnell.
Consi??? sorry.
Feature was crazy....3 wide passing....just crazy excitement.
Highlight was the #31 Kevin Gallant and #72 Rocket Rusnell got hooked or something, I didnt really see it myself, while they were up front and the caution flew sending them tail....some say they got free from each other and there was no need for caution...i didnt see it....but last lap both and a couple of other cars crashed in corners 3 and 4 doing quite bit of damage...the #27 of Kevin Albers took the win, followed by #9 David Silverthorn and #67 Roy Robinson 3rd. This class has so many guys that could win any night, a great show.

21 Latemodels showedup and alot went home with lots of damage and alot of questions.
Heats won by #37 Dave Elliott, #3 Chris Bochsler and the consi #27 Mark Burbridge.
Now the fun....It was a crash fest from lap one. Lots of wrecks....but too the closing highlight....Dave Elliott was leading the last part of the feature with #82 Jason Shaw on his tail...then in the closing laps coming out of turn 4 it looked like Shaw nudged Elliott enough to spin him and take the lead but then they thru the caution out....as they came around under caution they black flagged Shaw, curfewed the race and awarded the win to the 3rd place #56 Jeff Stewart, making #86 Ken Forth second and #52 Scott Lyons third....But WAIT..lol
While Stewart is sitting at the flagstand waiting for his checker flag pic and interview...they announce that since they were curfewing the race at the same time the caution was coming out, and that Dave Elliott was leading then...he is the winner....so does that mean Jason Shaw gets 2nd back or is he still black flagged for spinning Elliott although the caution was coming out for the curfew? Left alot of people scratching their heads....Last I heard there were a few protests and some pretty upset drivers with no decision when I left at 11 pm.
More people in the stand than last time, but less than 500.

Sounds like a lot of favourtism towards Elliott.  He should be at the tail end and Shaw black flagged and the third place finisher the winner.  Who does the scoring...Elliott pits?  The curfew should be applyed after the cauition.

the curfew in that situation sounds like a joke.........they should use some common sense when it comes to that....

The entire night was a joke.  $30 to get in the pits is just crazy.  But for an involved car to be given the win is nuts.  Here is how the rule book reads.
"In the event a race must be stopped due to a serious problem, it can be called complete
at the official's direction. A race may be called complete at any time after the halfway mark.
On all restarts, the line-up will be taken from the last completed lap with accident cars
assuming scratch position. A lap is considered complete when the lead car crosses the
start/finish line."
I think that sums it up.

On top of the higher admission, I heard some food prices were bumped up too.
If you look at the schedule, there could be alot of $30 nights this year.
And the go cart club people are suppose to be upset too.
Story going around I heard, the go cart club paid for track, they rent track, they pay insurance...but arent allowed to use bathrooms, garbage cans or canteen...and that Flamboro may charge them all an admission everyweek on top now.

Question with anybody from Flamboro who was there .What time is curfew as I notice your races start at 6:30 and from your schelude you had 3 regular car groups and Can-Am Midgets. With this schelude you should get this in under 3 1/2 hrs which means that show should have been done by 10:00 P.M.Were there lenghty red flags during the show I do not know.If they (drivers) were gave notice that there could be a curfew on the late Model race. How many laps were left when they called the race.As for the accident by the sounds of it the lead car & 2nd place car got in a accident which means the 3rd place car would be given first and the first 2 cars would be moved to the back of the field. But the word curfew comes into play here as they would then go back to the last green lap.Question here now is to the track now you (track ) have to make a decision when you think you are going to have curfew you will have to make a decission how many laps that race will be before you start it.But with your start time of 6:30 P.M. there should be no excuse for curfew unless there is weather or serious accident (Red flag).Did that happen last night I donot know but if it did not you (track ) may have to look at your race procedures to make this show to work smooth for both fans & drivers.

42crew brings up the rule book wording. Halfway?? I just burned the buttons out on my caculator and I keep getting the same answer. 17 laps aint half of 35. So they should have had to run one more lap then curfewed. then the 37 should have had to start tail for being an involved car right? And I left before the canams went out. As did plenty of others I noticed. Good thing they got the extra 5 bucks outta everyone.

I hope someone can post the Canam results, I didnt get too see any since we were getting car ready for feature during their heats.
I actually wanted to see how the #39 did myself, someone timing people said his times werent that far off top times.

There were lots of cautions all night in all classes. One or 2 red flags. The curfew for the late model feature was after 10:30 with the TQ's still to go.
Track says final curfew for all racing is 11 and midnight everyone has too be off the property. But racing was still going past 11 last nite.

Last night is perfect example of why people are not coming out to the races anymore.

I believe the Late Models only completed 15 laps for their feature out of 25 scheduled. It was about 10:40 pm with the Can-Am Midget feature still to come.  I was joking with friends before the last restart  that if they have one more caution they may throw the checkered and sure enough that's what happened!

Not much of a crowd again on the spectator grandstand side as pointed out by an earlier post.  Flamboro will probably have the best car counts of any weekly Ontario asphalt track this season but must cut down on the length of the show.

My 2008 Race Count: 9

My 2008 Track Count: 4 -  New Smyrna (FL), Flamboro (ON), Humberstone (ON), Ransomville (NY)

ShortTrackFan you have said it right Flamboro by the looks of their car counts are the highest in the province for racing and yes they will have to change something whether it is changing the format (IE: cancelling consi;s ) which is not the best way to go but if you have to you have to.Another idea would be keep the same format and cut the lap counts on heat races.if Flamboros is 10 lap heat races you may have to go 8 lap races.Overall there is no reason why you cannot get all these races done in reasonable time. One question reguarding last night why was the CAN AM Midgets last on the program. Most tracks I have been to the Special Series cars features go before the regular shows.I have seen ARCA Trucks at Delaware go before the Delaware features,SOS Spints do features before regulars at South Buxton & Brighton.maybe the track should look at this or if their is a Special series race there(Flamboro) they may have to drop a class for that night.

taking 2 laps out of each heat would mean that there would be about 36 laps less. thats if theres 3 classes having 4 heats and 4cylinders having 6 heats. even if each lap was 20 seconds thats only taking 12 minutes out of the night.
