RYAN LITT: READY FOR KALAMAZOO

by Tommy Goudge (June 1, 2012) London, Ontario – Ryan Litt had promising starts to both of his first two races this season, but ran short of luck in both events. He’s looking to get back up front this weekend in Michigan at the Kalamazoo Speedway.

Ryan’s season began behind the wheel of the T&T Promotions #42 at the Baer Field Speedway in Indiana. It was the opening race of the season for both the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints series, and Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series.

Ryan qualified 8th out of the 22 cars in attendance at Baer Field with a lap of 15.446 around the Fort Wayne, Indiana half mile. The heat race went well, with Ryan getting to the front early and going on to win. A 10 car inversion of qualifying times put Ryan outside row 2 for the feature race, but he didn’t make it through the first lap due to a 4 car pileup.

Following the Baer Field disappointment, Ryan and the #07L BS&B Radiator team set their sights on the biggest race of their season – the Little 500 at Indiana’s Anderson Speedway.

Little 500 practice proved promising, as Ryan ran fast and comfortable laps around the high-banked 1/4 mile oval. “Pole Day” qualifying did not go as planned though, and the #07L was not one of the top 15 cars locked in to Saturday’s race. Friday’s “Bump Day” went much better, as Ryan turned the fastest 4 lap time of either session at 44.888 seconds, and moved his starting position to 16th, inside row 6.

"We messed up as a team during (first round) qualifying, and waved off a lap that would of put us solidly in the top 10," Ryan said afterwards.

The unique 500 lap race got underway under a clear sky (unlike last year), and Ryan began to pick his way to the front. The brakes on the #07L failed before the 30 lap mark, but Ryan was able to continue moving forward until making contact with Jimmy McCune, and damaging the car too much to continue.

"I'm not sure exactly what happened in the 500, but the brakes were completely gone," says Ryan. "I figured I could roll the corners without brake, and hope that if they cooled down they would come back, but that never happened, and I got into Jimmy, which I feel bad about."

Ryan is 28th in the final rundown for the 2012 Little 500, listed as completing 141 laps. Amazingly, this marked only the second time in 8 attempts that Ryan was not running at the end of the Little 500.

Ryan will be back in the #42 this Saturday night when the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints series races at Kalamazoo Speedway in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Ryan has run well at “The Zoo” in the past, including a 2nd place finish in his most recent visit to the fast 3/8 mile oval on July 16, 2011.

Ryan will run AVSS events in the #42, and now he's also going to get back to racing with the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series, as his family's #07L team has purchased a slightly-used Diablo chassis out of Florida. They hope to have it ready to race at Lucas Oil Raceway Park (formerly Indianapolis Raceway Park) on Saturday, June 9.

"Hopefully we can get back on track here at Kalamazoo, and carry that on to IRP with our new Diablo," says Ryan.
