Curious- What do you fans think about that. Would you go ??

I'd go if it was withing reasonable travelling distance...which for me means S Buxton or Ohsweken.

Question is, would the drivers go?

I would go.  Maybe you should try for two dirt races to make thge extra tire and set up costs worth while.  Good luck with everything.  GG

We have had a ton of interest on this idea and I will run it by the Drivers Dec. 2nd, but keep your replies coming as this will become the word of mouth that I will present at the meeting, and to the Track that is interested in hosting the show.
As for the cost to setup these cars, I have talked with several ARCA teams that do this transsition and they said basically it comes down to a real soft spring package, swapping the shocks around, picking a lower gear then they would normally run at the size of track, and plenty of soap and water !!

It would be a tremendous event to be at, the Arca race on Speed is always a must tape if I can't be home to watch. If combined with the dirt late models on the same evening, I would definitly attend .

Tell Marsha, I'll help her wash the car. ;)

2 races sounds like fun, Dave. And Ohsweken's just down the road.

I don't know where the 2 race deal came from but IF we do take on a Dirt Show, it would only be one event, and the  Track we choose would be announced in our 2008 Schedule. I for one come from pavement racing and cannot get over how many 'pavement fans' ,and 'dirt fans', want to see us run on a Dirt Track.
Have we taped into a whole new market here. Heck maybe we started something big enough that other series will start to look at it.    What's next..... - NASCAR CUP LIVE for Eldora !!

I for one think this would be one heck of a great show, and obviousally create a whole new fan base for the OSS.

Dave:
Perhaps you should have some OSS teams test on dirt first.

If we do go to Dirt we will try and test first, but for sure we will take at least one car there with a Dirt Crew Chief to find the base line setup, which will be shared with every Team in the OSS. Once everyone has the setup in there cars we could also run a Saturday Show where the racing starts at 6PM but have the OSS there at 9AM to start running laps. That way when the fans show up at 6PM we wont look so silly, and be able to put a good show on. I wonder how many current drivers in the OSS have ever raced on Dirt..if hey have I would say they have the upper hand at least till everyone else figures it out. Hell I may even come out of retirement for that race. Dirt looks like a real BLAST !!

you can start with some of those setups you guys have been trying lol    on a serious note
if your going to do the dirt thing you should do two nights to make the work worth while maybe a Friday at osh and sat at merritville same weekend.

John I think one night of dirt would be enough. Do you have any setups as I have seen you sideways before !!!

I would love to see the OSS on dirt, This would be a very entertaining show. However having a dirt track prepared and ready for a 9 am practice session could be a feat in itself. You have to rememeber practice on dirt is hard to come by. A team usually gets about 4 or 5 laps of practice on any given night. You would have to convince said track to let you guys have a seperate practice day, or go on the test days in the spring. Good luck with this one, I hope it happens.

That is a ggod point and you are more then likely right.
I don't know anythin but pavement and I have run so many drivers that when they see marbles on the track they tell me the track is really dirty....What do you say when the surface is Dirt ?  "The Track looks dirtier then most !!

If you want to get more info on racing on Dirt it might not hurt to get ahold of Kirk Hooker he runs at South Buxton every Saturday . He drives a Dirt late Model there. Kirk lives in Chatham Ontario and works with his brother at Country View Golf couse in Chatham. He also runs a asphalt Late Model and goes to various tracks in Ontario ( Delaware,Flamboro, etc.) Thought this may help you for info

I think a dirt race is a great ideal ,count me in you have my vote,as a regular on the oss series i think this would add to this series and truly show the best and most diverse driver .It would give some of the older guys a chance at the points that raced before asphalt was invented ,,,Merrifield ,robblee, skeeter Ha ha .great ideal ....Mike Hryniuk # 80
