Why is there less race reports/Reviews this year?
« on: August 26, 2015, 09:27:47 AM »
I and many others have noticed this season less race reports from tracks and series this year. I was thinking I wasn't getting them but this is not the case they just haven't been sent or they just don't update their sites.

We are trying very hard to keep racing alive in Canada but it seems tracks and series are not. You really need to get your race reports out and not just here.

When I post reports and they are picked up by search engines and people like and share or retweet these post which really helps get the word out there that their is still good racing tracks and series in Canada.

Please let me know what you think am I right or wrong on this?

social media has changed the way things are done now a days imo. Delaware does do a brief report usually by the end of the weekend. MyLaps has all the results for any tracks using transponders. delaware releases a link later on race night to the results on Mylaps, Spencer or one of his peeps tweets live from Sunset on race nights I think. Brian Watt does a report on Sunsets races on Facebook every weekend, Trevor does a Shadow report on race nights if hes there at the speedway. Flamboro has never been good about updating their website.

I like the twtter and FB way of reading about the races over the generic reports that we used to have to read.

I cant remember the last time I logged onto this site, never mind the last time I posted on here. I happened to see this link this morning on FB...... Whats that tell ya?

If you want to help keep racing alive in Canada, financially support a car, track, class or series in Canada. That will help more than some random results report IMO.

If you like seeing a bunch of messed up stuff facebook is great for that as there is no organization on their and they are always changing how stuff is shown on people pages. So new stuff doesn't always get shown first. if you ask me it's a step backwards how to read and reply on stuff. Also very hard to find a post if you go a week a later and try and find it.

I used to get a lot more press releases from series and track and now it has dropped a lot.

So what you are saying is media sites are wasting there time posting reports and results. I find a lot of people don't even bother with facebook or twitter. You have to cover all markets in this day and age putting your eggs in one basket doesn't always work out.

I think everything has an ebb and flow. I agree 100 percent that a bb is still superior to fb in a lot of ways. Go on a fb page and try and find that photo or conversation you were looking at a month or two ago...you won't find it unless you have time to kill.

However convincing the masses is another story. I have a few more thoughts but don't have time to write them right now....but suffice to say that social media has made news a lot more "disposable" in my opinion. (Not just in racing either) Some of the things that we used to do....my reports, Vokey's, some of the photogs....that stuff isn't as valued as it once was. And thats not bitterness....just recognizing that things change.

people love yours and Dave's reports and came here to read them and would continue to do so If Barrie Speedway wasn't. You don't write full reports anymore do you Trev? as I would get them and post them here.

I'm glad people still can come and find stuff they are looking for quickly.

I think I might just out live some of these social media sites. I will hang in here as long as I can.

This is precisely the reason why racing "is where it is". All the negative "where is it now" instead of praising and supporting the people, racers and facilities who put the effort into the future of racing. Yeah it takes a lot of hard work to do all the "necessary" PR and up keep by many dedicated staff and management throughout the racing season of a race track just like the racer's cars themselves, if you fail to do what you can to stay on top of your competition you will eventually get passed and fall into place with the effort in which that you have put in.

Thank you Doug Townsend for all of your weekly race reports about Full Throttle Motor Speedway and to CRO for all of your awesome work to keep this site going plus all of our great racers and loyal fans who get what we are trying to accomplish at FTMS!!!

In spite of the thread title, it's not so much about what's wrong with racing. There's actually not much wrong with racing per se...nothing that can be helped anyway.

Everyone used to come here....now we're just all over the place. I think the question is "how do we maintain an active racing community?"

Yes I should state there are some series and tracks that are on top of their game and continue put out reports and share them and these tracks seem to do very well.

Members and I noticed this year there seems to be less reports then usual and I'm not knocking racing or tracks or series. Just want to continue getting these reports and more of them as I feel the more we can get out there on all the mediums it's better for racing.

Have you ever noticed your posts on facebook don't get indexed by search engines only a group name will show up.

Maybe the title is a bad one we can change this.

i use to post alot about Flamboro but havent been there all that much this year...FB has changed everything but its starting to get too cluttered for my liking, especially with all the election crap on it now...

it might help if you update the look of site every few months, not sure how hard that is but could help...add a few pics...how about driver of the week pic...a link to all the tracks web sites...i have one page i use and 1/2 the tracks are gone or the links have changed...lol..
and your limited to posters as some cant be bothered setting up an account...

the site software limits the use of facebook logon and opening it up without an account would just wreck the site, as it would be full of spam. the look of the site is not the issue it's everyone thinks facebook is everything and that is the only place you need to be. I find it a mess.

I have a hard time coming on later and trying to find a post on facebook after I read it and want to go back to it.
