McLean Sweeps Delaware; Wins Fifth of Season
Komoka, ON - Gary McLean drove his #8 OSCAAR Modified to victory lane at Delaware Speedway for the second time this season on Friday night after sneaking by #82 Justin Demelo. McLean stuck on the high side following a lap 15 restart to get by Demelo who had led every lap to the point.
McLean then held off a hard charging#1 Barry Newman, making his third OSCAAR start, over the final ten laps to earn his fifth victory in eight races so far this season. McLean admitted following the race that Newman likely had the quicker car and home track advantage, but felt 'The Bear' chose a couple of bad lines entering corners that enabled him to fend off the hungry veteran.
The race would be slowed just three times for caution with the first coming at lap 11 and the final at lap 16.
With the victory, Gary McLean unofficially extended his lead in the championship standings to 36 points over cousin #7 Brent McLean, who finished seventh.
With a fourth place finish, #99x Tim Burke grabbed a share of the Rookie Points lead with #14 Davey Terry, who finished sixth.
