Luke Gignac Scores Runner-Up, Takes Over OSCAAR Modified Points Lead

Running up front and leading laps on Sunday at Sunset Speedway paid off for Luke Giganc en route to a podium finish.

He was fast in qualifying on Saturday, posting a fourth-place finish in his first heat, followed by a runner-up in the second qualifier.

Starting on pole for the feature, he would battle side-by-side with Matt Barton for the opening five laps, before Barton was able to clear him. He was then able to remain second until the first caution flew at Lap 13 for an incident in turn two.

Restarting second, he once again battled side-by-side with Barton for the lead, before taking the top spot. He would lead until the third caution flew for a spin in turn two at Lap 18.

Restarting as the leader, he battled for the top spot with Chris Milwain, falling back to second with 14 laps to go. He would then drop back another spot two spots, running fourth at Lap 29, with the caution flying two laps later for an incident in turn two.

Restarting in fourth, he battled with the leaders, moving up into second with six laps to go. He would remain there, holding off the challenge from behind, to score a runner-up finish.

The podium was enough to jolt him up to the top of the points standings, 13 markers ahead of AJ Emms entering the final two events of 2017.
