Modifieds at varney
« on: December 20, 2011, 01:28:16 AM »
I was talking to Kent and they are interested in the class running at the track. He asked if we could have a meeting in the next couple of weeks just as an introduction and find out if it was something people might be interested in. It would be nice to see the class back home where it started. (Please no history lessons, I lived through it.) We are trying let people know and this seems to get a fairly wide audience. So if you have run them before or just want find out what it is like to drive a rocket let us know if your interested.                                                                                                                                                                          I would like to thank the Nuhn family for keeping the track going. I know they already have lot of time and money invested and it is good to hear how excited they are. I would thank Ken and Joan for all the updates that they did while they were here. The pit pads  the tracks surface and the new walls were appreciated.

Hopefully Varney and its Organizers will jump on board with the Outlaw Mods. It would be a great way for Varney to run these cars on off dates that they are not running with the tour. As deleware no longer runs mods and as I hear Mosport isnt co-operating. So If Varney could get on the same page with these guys (OSCAAR) it might just be a great opportunity to have the premier Modified division in Ontario use Varney as its home track. Not to mention that other doors could open working with OSCAAR in bringing some Super Late Model shows there. This could be a Great Opportunity !

Follow the leader isn't a race. Oscaar would not work there. Look how well it goes at Flamboro. complete carnage/follow the leader

I think it depends on what OSCAAR has in mind as a modified. The mra had actually worked out a decent set of rules but all the power struggles made it impossible for track owners to take them seriously. A single set of rules by a respected group could bring these cars places they used to go a few years ago. If the cars stay the same the original rules from three tracks were so close it was just wording. I know the track and the fans would like to see them as full time class. If the rules work out varney could be a home track for them. But that is up to varney and OSCAAR to work out. For those of you who can,t afford a late or thunder any more these things might suprise you. As far as running the outlaw lates there I would think that would be wild to drive. Man that would fun. Good luck to OSCAAR in what they are trying to do but man you are going hear alot whining.

Regardless if the Oscaar superlates decide to run Varrny it is a proven fact that Varney runs the modifieds well. I have been watching the modifieds since they started and they where progressing well with the thunder series. But after the thunder series split up these cars started loosing respect to other racers and such. Lets face the facts. these cars behind Super Lates and TQ midgets are the next fastest thing running in Ontario on a regular basis. But since the split of the thunder series and not having a full feild of cars they have not evolved as much as they should of. I can remember watching 30+ cars trying to make a feild in a thunder series event. That simply means if you didnt work on your car or try to come up with new ways of going faster  to make it the best it possibly can be you were going home. Dont get me wrong there are a number of guys that keep there equipment in tiptop shape and it shows. But since the early 00's and up these cars have been lets face it looking like pieces of junk. Its time to update these cars a little... And that doesnt mean spending 10's of thousands of dollars. some of the upgrades I can see these cars need and also what I hear from sitting in the stands is... wouldnt these guys look cool on wide fives and 10" rubber. What about adding quick change rear ends... im pretty sure they dont run them now but i could be wrong. Only makes sense for a travling series to run quick change... and i dont know the exact cost but i am for sure that it cost less to run a quick change then a regular rear end (alot less cost for buying different gears anyways). But im not a racer and dont spend the money. but just coming from a fans point of view what these cars lack is defiantly NOT driver talent but its the respect they get at the track.

I personally am a racer of this class and it makes COMPLETE sense to try and upgrade these cars by doing these simple pretty inexpensive upgrades (quick change, wide fives) I understand keeping the cost out of this class buuuuut you can hardly argue these cars need a newer look along with updated components which will lead to a gain in respect. And as for Varney running the Mods on off dates of the Outlaw Mods would be a great plan and i think the best way varney could go.
