Thorold, Ontario (May 28) During a rare intermission during the fast-paced entertainment packed event that Merrittville Speedway is, the Thorold Track’s front stretch will resemble a sea of race cars as Seaway Hose & Hydraulics presents Family Autograph Night – Saturday June 6th.
“Racing at Merrittville is quite a spectacle … when the green flags are flying and when we host our Family Autograph Nights,” relates (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “for the life long fan or the new one – seeing the front-stretch filled with race cars is quite a sight.”
In what is unique about racing and at the grass roots level in particular – Race Car Drivers are very approachable and enjoy meeting their fans and Merrittville’s talented field is no exception. Race fans will be let out onto the track through the Start-Finish Line Gate for autographs and photos and the motorsports meet and greet.
“The professionalism of our Race Teams is second to none,” adds Bicknell, “there isn’t one that doesn’t have their own cards to sign or some other item … they are all so proud of their cars and their sponsors.”
One driver that will be in the spotlight starting right when the gates open at 5:30 will be the # 71 Seaway Hose & Hydraulics Car of Mike Bowman.
Bowman the defending Original Pizza Logs Sportsman Point Champion was all set to defend his title but during the off season made the decision to join the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified field as a Rookie in 2009.
“At the rules meeting … we still planned on defending,” revealed Bowman, adding, “it wasn’t until late February that we changed plans.”
Bowman the rookie currently sits tied for 7th in points with defending Champion Chad Brachmann – the two drivers just 36 points out of top spot.
“Racing 358 Modified is a lot harder … the competition level is above anything I’ve experienced before,” remarked Bowman, “I like the new challenges … but at the same time it’s tough on me as a driver - being a contender every week (in Sportsman) - to being happy with a Top 10 finish in Modified.”
Bowman summed up the start of his 2009 season … “I think we’re running well and I’m happy with the way the year is going.”
Merrittville Speedway’s Family Autograph Night will also showcase the Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series’ drivers and their cars that compete as well in the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman, Hoosier Stocks, the Modern Corporation Open Wheel Lites and the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders.
