New pitstop rules for NCWTS
« on: February 13, 2009, 09:06:51 PM »
They say it is to save money but at first glance I don't think I like the new rules. Twice as many yellow flag pitstops and twice as many chances for over the wall guys to get hit. It may setup some interesting strategy under green when you can only take tires or fuel but under yellow it is in get tires or fuel then out then back in. Have to see how this works out at smaller tracks.

It is confusing but it seemed to work out for JR to put him in the lead when they only took gas and didn't go back for tires. I guess we'll see what happens.

The rule will be interesting to follow but if they plan it right it could be the right call to come back in and get gas or tires but then again it will also be the wrong call.

Did anyone lock the tires up after changing them and coming back down for fuel?

I guess it is get gas first or tires first.

What does the call sound like on the radio? Gas no Tires OK no Gas. I wonder if some will mess it up and jump out with gas can when they are changing tires.

whats the point? ...how does it save money when they just pit twice?..... they need to drop it..or only allow 1 pit stop per yellow

its supposed to eliminate two guys in the pits........so the jack man or tire changer can put fuel in as well.  who knows how many teams did cut two guys out though?
i wish they would go one stop per caution   and on another note, eliminate all  testing in nascar,  all together...no going to any tracks whatsoever.  this would make for better racing, show up on race day  and the big$$$$  teams  have the same track time as everyone.   more jeremy mayfield stories would pop up im sure.

They only allow 5 guys over the wall now so it would be pretty hard to screw up the call.

They are only allowed 12 guys total at the track working on the car as well.  Not sure if that is different or completely new.

Throw in a hurry up caution at a place like Bristol and lets see what happens.  :D

Bristol! Never thought of that. I'm trying to picture this in my head. Enter off turn 4 under yellow, 36 trucks. Guys on front stretch get tires (or gas) leave their pits and start coming around while guys on back stretch are still pulling into their pits. Now here is where it will get interesting. Do they pull back onto the track out of turn 3 or do they keep going around on the apron into the front stretch pits again? There will be the equivilent of almost 4 laps going around the pits before coming back on the track. This doesn't even take into account lap down trucks. When are they allowed to pit? After the first round or after both rounds of lead lap trucks. What a potential nightmare. I see a new rule for short tracks in their future! Martinsville is similar but it has a wall around 1 and 2 at least.
