As the 2005 season comes to a close we come to realize that the Chase for the Cup could go to anyone. One of any of the top 5 drivers could be on top after this weekend at Atlanta. Any driver can earn up to 150 points per race. And Carl Edwards is sitting just -149 points behind the current leader Tony Stewart.

Top 5 In Points After Martinsville
1. Tony Stewart      Leader
2. Jimmie Johnson     - 15
3. Ryan Newman       - 63
4. Greg Biffle            - 83
5. Carl Edwards        - 149

With only four tracks remaining. Atlanta, Texas, Phoenix and Homestead- Miami. Three out of those Four tracks have been raced on earlier this season. All four tracks though have been won by a chase contender...including Homestead-Miami in 2004.

Atlanta - Carl Edwards
Texas  - Greg Biffle
Phoenix - Kurt Busch
Homestead-Miami (2004)- Greg Biffle.

There is a very likely chance that these guys could have repeat wins and put them very close to contention. Im my opinion I think it will be Jimmie Johnson who will take it all home. But who do you think will win the championship?

Good call Acronym, Biff has a chance but I will pick one of the most likely.
My pick is Jimmy Johnson, Gordon's "B" buddy.

Glad to see you back on the board again. Hope all is well with you.

Well my guy Carl Edwards has a slight chance, but my wife has stuck with Tony Stewart the entire year, I think her chances are better than mine  :?

For next year I'm on record for Mark Martin, Carl Edwards and whoever is in the #21 car

Well I think it will be Jimmie Johnson, unless Carl Edwards takes a big jump.

Next year I believe Jon Wood will be in the 21 car.

I'd like to see Jon in the #21 car, perhaps he'll do double duty Busch & Cup, but I think they'd like to see him in Busch for another year to get a little more experience first.

Wood's & ST Motorsports are talking about a 6 car team,(2 trucks, 2 Busch and 2 Cup cars (if they can get sponsorship for the 2'nd.)

It would be awesome if they can fit  Kenny Shrader in this scenario as well.

I guess I will have to go with Jimmy Johnson

Just had to add that back in 1990 Dale Jarrett had the #21 Wood's Brothers

They're a well respected team, and have had a lot of good drivers over the years. My favourite was David Pearson.

Yah, they sure were! That's when you could go to the dealership and buy a car pretty mush the same as the ones racing around the track! I remember as a young teen, the Dodge/Chrysler dealership on Brant Street in Burlington had a brand new Dodge Daytona for sale sitting right in the front of their lot.

Here's a little article I've found you might enjoy and probably remember the famous race talked about.

http://home.flash.net/~dralstin/stories/Pearson-Petty.htm

Racewoman mentioned Dale Jarrett running for the Wood Brother's, I beleive he won his first race with then in Michigan. The Wood Brother's is NASCAR's oldest team that is still competing.

Here's a few website's I've found on the Wood Brother's history, if anyone's interested. Len Wood started racing in NASCAR in 1953. Grandson Jon, who's in Busch will probably take the drivers seat of the #21 in 2007. If you ever go to Martinsville, you have to drop off in Stuart Va and see the Wood Brother's Museum.

What a race today! Whow! I was sitting on pins and needles there for a while, when 99, 6, and 8 were trading spots for 1'st and especially when they were showing in car camera shots of Carl up on the wheel!

RW, your guy had a good race today too!

The commentators were saying that with the rumoured driver swap, there's about 12 parts to it, and about 8 are done deals, depending on the rest of the puzzle? We should know by next Thursday?

I sure hope Shrader ends up in the Wood Brother's camp! Hope Fatback stays with Wood's too! Who knows, the Wood's would like to run 2 cars according to their long range plans, if they get sponsorship, maybe Rudd & Schrader will be team mates???

I have a 1/64 diecast of the car David Pearson drove. It was the #17 a 1969 Mercury Cyclone. Strange thing is I don't know why I have this car?

I too miss those days of racing.

Probably because he was one heck of a driver!

I've got the same car, RW, only it's a 1/32 slot car, hopefully the eldest grandson will be able to play with me soon, he's 4, don't think he's quite ready yet, probably by the time race season starts up again, I'll set it up for him in the campsites, give him something to do. Gotta get him going on NASCAR 3 soon too. His Dad is into hockey/football/soccer, I'm slowing converting him too.

P.S. I've got the #88 1/32 slot car, reverse paint scheme, you'll have to drop by the camper next spring and have a look.

If you take time to look at the points the chase is winding down to 3 drivers. Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards. Im hoping Carl can pull it off and win that championship in his first full year in the Cup Series.

Me too

Here's my picks for 2006.

Cup: #6, #99, #21
Busch: #47, #59
NCTS: #50 & #99 (hopefully Petey will a get to race one of these)
CASCAR: #4 & #28 (hopefully) and of course #86

I do reserve the right to change these at any time  :?  I did manage to get one Chevy in the bunch??? To keep you Dodge guys happy I'll pick #9 CASCAR.

Actually I'm a fan of just about all of them, I just like racing!
