PICTON, Ont. – April 25, 2018 – Dan Ferguson is eagerly awaiting the start of a new racing season so he can fire the engine under the hood of his No.11 DIRTcar Sportsman Modified. When he hits the track for the first time, Ferguson will have a new primary marketing partner on board.

Ferguson is excited to welcome Lehigh Heidelberg Cement Group of Picton, Ont. to his team for the 2018 season. The company is currently celebrating its 60th year in Picton.

“It’s nice to have another big sponsor come on board, especially a big company like Lehigh,” said Ferguson. “It will offer us a bunch more opportunities. We did a lot to the car over the winter and we have a completely fresh and straight car to race with this year. Their support helps strengthen our program in a lot of areas this season.”

Also joining the Ferguson Motorsports team for 2018 are Peacemaker 420 and Studio 25 Salon. The team’s two new marketing partners will join several of Ferguson’s loyal supporters, including Manlow Electric, Speedy Auto Service Kingston, Grosse Construction, Schoonhoven Landscaping, Tire Underground, VanZuylen Tire Service and Cobourg Welding Supply.

Ferguson is eager to begin the new campaign, which could take the No.11 to as many as 29 different racetracks. Ferguson has planned an extensive race calendar that will follow all three regions on the DIRTcar Sportsman tour’s schedule. While he admits the quantity of races will be challenging, the travel also allows for a few weekends off throughout the summer to spend with family as well.

“We’re going to follow a similar schedule to what we did last year when we toured around,” Ferguson said. “It’s a lot of races and in some cases we may decide not to attend due to weather, work or other reasons. We’re making Weedsport (NY) Speedway our home track this year to get our home track points. We really don’t have many goals and that’s what takes all the pressure off. We just go to the track, race as hard as we can and see how things shake out at the end of each night.”

Ferguson enjoys the travel aspect of his schedule because with it comes the experience of new tracks and competition each week.

“I don’t think many (if anyone) is going to do what we’re doing by following all three DIRTcar regions and some people think we’re crazy, but we really don’t mind the travel”.

Ferguson’s preliminary schedule has the No.11 team racing at 16 new tracks in 2018, including a pair of famous New York speed plants.

“I’m looking forward to tracks like Fonda and Lebanon-Valley,” Ferguson said of the Fonda, NY and West Lebanon, NY facilities, respectively. “They’re the legendary tracks that you always hear about, but never get to race at. It’ll be fun to go and see what happens.”

As far as the competition is concerned, Ferguson knows he will be swimming at the deep end of the pool when he rolls in to challenge the local talent.

“When you pull into all of these tracks and their regulars guys are all there, there’s probably 10 guys that are going to be tough to beat. It’s just neat to go and experience the different tracks and different drivers at each place you go. I had a lot of fun with that last year.”

Ferguson acknowledges his schedule, may prove tough for him and his team, but also believes they are better prepared for this season than they were last year.

“This year we have a spare engine, a spare frame and more or less a complete set of spare parts because we replaced everything on the car over the winter,” he said.

Ferguson plans to begin his 2018 season with a quick test session at Brighton Speedway before the first official green flag of the year at Fulton Speedway in Fulton, NY on Friday April 27 before travelling north to Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY the following night.
