Seroius Crash Saturday ?
« on: June 10, 2007, 07:28:41 PM »
The Ottawa Sun had a breif story about a seroius crash at the track saturday.  Anyone know anything about it ?  The ACT site says there was only one minor caution in the 100 lapper, so I am assuming the crash was in the mini stock, four for fun or Enduro class.  I am a mini stock racer, just haven't had the time to get out lately.  Anything anyone knows would be appreciated.
Thanks

Here's what I found in the Ottawa Sun:

Driver seriously injured at racewaySaturday, 7:30 p.m. Stock cars collide in turn

By ALEX HEBERT, Sun Media

What began as a beautiful day of racing at the Capital City Raceway Saturday ended with a disaster as paramedics airlifted a driver to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash.

The high-speed collision occurred at around 6:30 p.m. when two stock cars were taking a corner.

The 36-year-old driver of one car was trapped in his vehicle for about 20 minutes while emergency services scrambled to save him.

Paramedics reported that the man has severe injuries including an unstable pelvis, multiple chest injuries and two collapsed lungs.

Advanced care paramedics attended and used a chest-decompression procedure to reinflate the man's lungs and chest.

"Right now, that's the only thing that's keeping him alive," said paramedic team leader Darryl Wilton.

The race stopped as an emergency helicopter parked on the track and the victim was prepared for the flight to hospital.

Wilton said the man's wife and brother witnessed the crash along with hundreds of fans.

The driver of the other car escaped with minor injuries.

I was at the track on Saturday and saw the accident.  It was in the Mini-stock class.

Coming down the front straight Wally Lynch(95) was turned around and went flying backwards across the track and Todd Musker(53, was his first time out in the mini-stock, and probably last night) t-boned Wally in the driver's door at TOP speed.  It was a very very serious crash and the air-ambulance was called in for Wally.  I've seen alot of bad accidents before, but nothing to this magnitude.

The 53 car had absolutely NOWHERE to go and drove right into the driver's door of 95.  Definetly thinking of Wally and his family and wishing him the best!  Racing is supposed to be fun, but it puts everything into perspective when something like this happens.  Get well soon Wally!

Thanks for the update, that is extremely unfortunate. Team 29 Mini stock sends out our best wishes to both the Lynch family and the Muskers, as they are both key groups of people that help keep the mini stock class going and are some of the nicest people one will meet.

Trevor
