OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY PR: DIRTCAR SPORTSMAN RETURN THIS FRIDAY!

Ohsweken, Ontario – May 23, 2013 – Ohsweken Speedway’s 18th season began last Friday with 99 cars in the pit area, and great racing in all divisions. This Friday’s event will be even better, as Grisdale Racing presents the “Sportsman Shootout” featuring the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds returning to Ohsweken for the first time since 2008. The Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, Affordable Towing & Recovery Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Gale’s Auto Aftermarket Bombers will also join the action-packed night this Friday, May 24.

DIRTcar SPORTSMAN MODIFIEDS
DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds return to Ohsweken this Friday for the first time in 5 years. Formerly a weekly division at Ohsweken, the class has produced several current Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division regulars, including 2010 champion Dave Dykstra.

Many Sportsman division regulars at Merrittville Speedway and Humberstone Speedway are expected to compete at the DIRTcar-sanctioned event at Ohsweken this Friday, including Cody McPherson, a former Ohsweken Speedway Thunder Stock division champ who won the 2012 DIRTcar Sportsman Series title. Humberstone points leader Gary Lindberg has won two features at the Port Colborne track already this season, and will be another driver to watch at Ohsweken on Friday.

Some other former Ohsweken Speedway champions will be in the Sportsman field on Friday, including 2007 Ohsweken Speedway Sportsman champion Nick Cupolo, 2003 Ohsweken Speedway Mini Stock champion Robbie Rounce, and 2006 Ohsweken Speedway Thunder Stock champion A.J. Lewis, who has become a Sportsman regular at Canandaigua Speedway in New York state.

Several drivers who have competed at Ohsweken in Mod-Lites in the past are now Sportsman division regulars expected to compete on Friday, including Adam Leslie, Joey Mastroianni, and Shawn Sliter. Ohsweken’s victory lane has seen Sliter several times after dominating Mod-Lite performances.

The event will also have some American flavour, with Western New York drivers Mark Chiddy and Bob Winters planning to attend.

The most recent Sportsman races at Ohsweken were held in 2008, when Brandon Easey won a 30 lap feature on June 27, and James Michael Friesen took a 50 lap feature win on August 1.

CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING SPRINT CARS
Glenn Styres won another season-opening Sprint Car feature at his home track on Friday, and leads the points standings, followed by defending Sprint Car champion Chris Steele, Mitch Brown, Mikey Kruchka, and Dave Dykstra.

Styres' victory was his 17th career feature win at Ohsweken, and 4th on opening night.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS
Cory Turner was able to equal his win total from last season by claiming the feature win on opening night. He leads the Thunder Stock standings over Jim Lampman, Devin Habiuk, Mike Miller, and Lee Winger heading into the second round.

Karl Sault came from the B-Main to finish 8th in last week's feature, and leads the Rookie of the Year standings as a result.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Davey Boughton got his rookie season in the Mini Stocks started on a good note last week, by claiming the feature in his first try. He leads the Mini Stock standings over Robin Elliott, fellow rookie Alex Schuts, David Goodacre, and Laura Hughes.

GALE’S AUTO AFTERMARKET BOMBERS
Jesse McDonald outlasted Brady Longboat, Dusty DeBoer, and Max Chechalk to take the opening night Bomber feature win, and has the points lead over those drivers as a result, while Tim DeBoer rounds out the top 5.
