CAISTOR CENTRE, Ont. – June 13, 2017 – Team Turner Racing was back in action this weekend with all three cars competing against the Patriot Sprint Tour on Friday, June 9 at Ohsweken Speedway. Cory Turner led the way for the team with a ninth-place finish.

All three TTR cars were in the same heat race on a fast track. Cory Turner drove to a second-place finish in his KT Tobacco/Silo Wireless No.97. Both Ryan and Jamie Turner were hampered by a low pill draw and settled for sixth and seventh-place, respectively.

“We weren’t bad, we just started really far back in our heat race,” Ryan said. “It was pretty much a one lane track at that time. We started sixth and ran sixth. I wasn’t too disappointed with the car. I had a really tough heat race and we just ran where we were.”

The track changed considerably come Feature time with a very slick surface that threw a curveball at all three drivers.

“It slicked off more than I thought it would. I was a little loose as the race went on,” Jamie said of his Charlie Bee Honey No.11. “We changed the car a lot tonight for the Feature knowing that we kind of had a free shot at it because we starting at the back. We’ll learn from it. We passed a few cars, but not near enough. Overall, we’re okay. We came out of it with four wheels and that’s always good.”

Ryan Turner raced forward to a 12th-place finish from the 15th starting position in his Ace’s Bar and Grill No.91 against a tough field of Patriot Sprint Tour cars.

“We changed the car a little bit. I think I actually loosened it up a little bit too much,” Ryan explained. “It was good to get some laps on the high side because I haven’t really run there too much this year, so it was good to get the feel back. The car was a little loose off, which we can definitely work on. I’m not disappointed with the run. I’m happy we went forward. We’ll take what we learned from that and hopefully put it towards next week.”

Meanwhile, Cory Turner battled inside the top-10 throughout the main event and came out with a ninth-place finish.

“It wasn’t an Ohsweken points night, it was a Patriot Canada points night so I kind of through something at the car,” Cory said. “I didn’t think it was going to slick off as much as it did. I just freed the car up too much. I could make good laps on the top once in a while, but I had to be absolutely perfect up there. I got over the cushion a couple times and that set us back.”

“Our last five laps, I had half a second on the guys in front of me. I’m still a little bit baffled by that, that we were as good as we were late in the race, but struggled in the middle of it,” he added.

While Ryan and Jamie Turner attended a sponsor function on Saturday, Cory travelled east to take on the Patriots again at Brockville Ontario Speedway where he also finished ninth.

“It’s probably one of the narrowest tracks we go to,” Cory said. “I just felt like we didn’t have enough side bite. I was okay down in turns three and four, but I was really losing a lot of time down in one and two. I don’t know if I was too tight in or too free in the centre of the corner.”

The slick track experience all three drivers experienced over the weekend will be a huge benefit to their notebooks moving forward. Slick track racing is a particular area of focus for all three drivers as they keep an eye focused on the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals in September.

“It slicked right off, which I guess we should have read,” Ryan said. “It’s good to know what happened to the track and keep that in our thoughts for setting up the car later. We’re getting better and better on the slick. I just adjusted it too much because I thought it was going to be tacky.”

“There’s always these nights that surprise you and sometimes you just have to go home and say “we’ll let that one go”,” Jamie added. “We’ll go back to what we know works and just come back next week and look for the track that is what we expect.”

Team Turner Racing will be back in action at Ohsweken for Wall of Fame Night on Friday, June 15. For additional event information, visit www.ohswekenspeedway.ca.
