Formula 2000 Series Gets The Green Flag Big Time Wings and Slicks Racing Starts This Weekend

TORONTO, ON (April 28, 2015) – The F2000 Canada Series will take the green flag on the season during this weekend’s BEMC Spring Trophy Races at the ultra-fast Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Sanctioned by CASC – Ontario Region, the series will showcase the sleek, fast class that was featured so prominently in Canada during the 80’s and 90’s and launched the career of some of Canada’s greatest racing stars.

“We are pleased to get the season rolling here in Canada and are enthused with the response to the F2000 offering,” stated Move’s Jason Sharpe. “The series will take some time to get to the size it deserves but there is a lot of excitement about the future for this level of racing domestically. It provides a cost effective series for experienced formula car racers and young drivers alike and with time will become something pretty special,” he added.

To entice larger grids and close competition throughout the field the Series will have two classes and allow for multiple chassis including Van Diemen, Citation, and the newly launched Spectrum. The motor package will be the Ford Zetec in “A” Class that is immensely popular in both Pro and Club levels in the US and the “B” Class will feature the older Ford “Pinto” motor which was the staple for so many years in Formula 2000 competition.

The Series will also provide additional opportunities for some of Canada’s professional teams to build their businesses close to home, many of which have been running ultra-successful programs in US based series for years.

Things get rolling Friday, May 1st with a full day of testing, then Saturday with one practice, a qualifying and 30 minutes race. The Sunday schedule is a repeat of Saturday.

Driver announcements will be made in the days leading up to the event.
