Kimmel Series
« on: December 16, 2008, 02:55:06 PM »
Heard a rumour that #24 Barrie TC driver Leonard Jonston is building a car and will be running the Kimel series in the USA next year. First race January 1st at the ROCK in N.C. Anyone who can confirm or deny this? Is he running his old car or building a new one? If its true I think its great to see a "novice" local  short track racer doing something like this.

He was talking about it yes, but I don't know if he is building a new car. We talked more about what is legal and engine building, I think you can run a 410ci, which is a lot bigger than what we have around here.

Charlie Smith (#7 & 17 BSW and SS) raced at Bristol last year and had a great time until crashing.

dad has sponsorship backing and help to go to Bristol in April. If his car doesn't sell before then that is.

Hey Kahnefreak, you may want to call and see if they will let the nxtgen cars run. I had a quick talk with Charlie about it last year, at the time he said that he thinks nxtgen would not be allowed to run as they are to areo dynamic. But I could be wrong.

rules state that you can use up to 89 body style, and it so happens to be what dads cutlass is. He already talked to charlie. He has a floater he can use and knows what he has to do to get the car ready! it doesn't matter about the aero part of it. It's just the year of the car. They let you use a 1989 Cutlass nose cone, so why not let the 1988 or 89 cutlass run as they are the same body style and meat the body year specification rule

Len has pictures of his test at rockingham last week on his face book site. And the build and Charlies effort last year. I'd would love to be there, even just to watch.

I received an Email from Leonard yesterday. I told him that, there are more questions here than a Barbra Walters show. He said , He would drop around. and answer a bunch. Keep an eye on the fourm for Thunder 24. It will help him when he's interviewed by Alan Bestwick after he wins the whole thing. His test at the Rock went pretty good.
