Mack DeMan Dominates Barrie Speedway With The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets

Mack DeMan won his 4th feature race of the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget series on Saturday night at Barrie Speedway closing up the points battle between DeMan and Defending Champion and points leader Rob Neely to 29 points.  Winning his heat race and leading all 25 laps of the feature, DeMan was clocked at 12.94 seconds at this fast paced track. In Victory Lane, DeMan thanked his dad for the setup of the car, saying it was perfect. He also thanked car owner Andy Mackereth and Craig Mackereth for all their hard work on the car at the shop. "I want to give a 'Big Thank You' to Lucas Oil for all their years of being my sponsor as well as title sponsor of our series", said DeMan.

Taking the lead on lap one from his 4th place starting spot DeMan saw the caution flag come out for 3 cars getting tangled in turn 2. Barry Dunn, Todd Cresswell and Chris Holman all made contact with Holman the only car headed to the pits. As the green flag was shown again by starter Kyle Mackensie  DeMan took command of the point followed by David Balych and James Gray. Adrian Stahle was 4th and Neely rounded out the top five.

By lap 5 DeMan had half a straightaway lead on the field. Gray was now in second place followed by Stahle as Balych fell back to fourth place. The caution came out for a spin by Dylon Smith in turn two. At the restart DeMan wasted no time taking the point as Gray and Stahle battled for second. Balych and Neely fought for fourth. One lap later Neely passed Balych and set sites on Stahle. Last weeks winner at Flamboro Speedway, Corey Moesker, was now challenging Balych for the top five spot. Just past halfway, Moesker gained 5th place with a quick pass on Balych. One lap later DeMan began to lap the field.

With 5 laps to go DeMan was on rails. Lapping 4 cars in just two laps, DeMan went on to win followed by Gray, Stahle, Neely and Moesker. Heats were won by Neely and DeMan. Neely spun in the first lap of his 10 lap heat and came back through the field for the win. The 'B' main was won by Moesker.  Great runs were had by some of the rookies in the field. AJ Emms, driving for Peter DeMan, Mack's dad, started 16th and finished 7th. Tyler Turnbull went from 14th place up to 8th and leads the "Rookie of the Year" point's battle. Ryan Fraser went from his 15th starting spot to just short of a top ten finish.

The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets have a weekend off and return to Sauble Speedway on the Canadian Holiday weekend of Saturday, August 3rd, and Sunday, August 4th.
